More about our family…… We are a family of 5; dad (Grant), mum (Niki), and 3 children; Amy (10), Rachel (8) and Ross (5, but thinks he’s 10!). Their school is within walking distance but they prefer to cycle to school. They are extremely active kids and all attend Tae Kwon Do & swimming, Ross and Rachel have just started football. Amy competes nationally in junior Tae Kwon Do competitions and this year received gold awards for sparring and also patterns. Mum has her own business, a Hair & Beauty Salon and is also a Verifier for NVQ qualifications. Dad worked for Property Developers but was a victim of the economic crash. He was our house husband and is now working again, hence our need for an AuPair. The bigger picture for our family is that we have our visa to emigrate to Australia and went to Oz for a visit last summer. We shall be in the UK for the next year or so, basically until the economy picks up and we can sell our house/ business etc. Our desire is to make the move no later than Spring/ Summer 2013. We have had a few AuPairs in the past 6 years or so; 2 from Czech Republic, 1 from Austria and 1 from Denmark. Beata, from Hungary, has been with us from last July and is looking to return back home at the end of May to prepare for exams to attend University. Our pets consist of 3 goldfish, Bella the falcon, and an Ozzy the owl. There are no care requirements… We live in a village located between the two major cities in Scotland; Edinburgh and Glasgow. Edinburgh is about 15 miles away and Glasgow about 25 miles away. The village has all the necessary amenities and Livingston is about 4 miles away. Livingston has three shopping malls which in length is almost 1km of shops, bars, cinema, sports centres, college etc. West Lothian College, within Livingston, has a language centre. One of our Au-Pairs received a grant (ILA Scotland) which meant she had no fees to pay. We believe this grant is still available. There is also another language school in Linlithgow. Our house is located on the edge of the countryside and within a quiet cul de sac and is conveniently located to bus routes and train stations. The children’s bedrooms are down stairs and our bedroom along with the Au-Pairs, are upstairs… basically ‘away’ from the kids! The Au-Pairs room has French windows, a double bed, side tables, chest of drawers, fitted wardrobes, TV, alarm clock and an En-Suite (shower, wash hand basin and toilet). In essence, we need assistance with the children whilst we are both working. Basically this will involve getting the kids ready and taking them to school in the morning, collecting the kids from school in the afternoon, making sure they do their homework and looking after them until Grant or I get home from work, and doing activities with them during school holidays. Misc… 1. We are a pretty laid back type of family, there has to be an element of flexibility. 2. Regarding housework, the way we have worked in the past is that we all help out. We don’t expect the Au-Pair to act as a housemaid, just help us. 3. If the Au-Pair could coordinate the children to keep their rooms tidy, but not do it for the children. 4. If we’re going to be late home, we would ask that the Au-Pair caters for themselves and the children. 5. If we need the Au-Pair to baby-sit we shall come to an agreement. 6. We want an Au-Pair who enjoys being active with the children and not simply allow them to sit and watch TV (or play their DS’s all day)… you know what kids are like! 7. I am on face book and likewise Zuzana and Beata (former AuPairs from Czech and Hungary,) should you wish to find out more about us/ hear from one of our previous Au-Pairs.
