I was born in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa, but I have Portuguese nationality. From the age of 13 I lived with an aunt in Portugal, helping her look after her two young boys. I also went to live for a time with another aunt when she needed help because she had a baby, and again when she had a second baby. So I am really used to working with children and mothers, helping them with housework and cooking. While I was working in the military hospital as an auxiliary nurse, I also worked part-time in the home of one of the doctors, tidying and cleaning the house and sometimes cooking for her. I like cooking, and would be happy to learn to do English cooking for an English family.
I often used my aunt’s car, to do the shopping etc. I took my driving test in Lisbon, and am used to city driving, but would like a few practice sessions before driving children in the UK. Then I would be very happy to take them to their sporting activities and encourage them. I used to take part in competitive gymnastics until 2000.
I hope to enter nursing training in UK in September 2011 or March 2012, and already have the necessary entrance requirements, except I need to improve my English. Although I studied English for 5 years in secondary school, my ability to communicate in English is low at the moment, but I hope this will improve quickly if I take lessons and work with a family where I can practise, so I should like to be in a home where at least one of the children is of school-age, or nearly school age. I am visiting UK and available for interview until Feb 3rd. I am then returning to Portugal for 4 weeks for a small operation on my eye, and shall be returning to UK on March 4th, ready to start work as soon as possible.
