Hi! My name is Victoria, I’m 22 years old, nearly 23. Although my family is originally from Equatorial Guinea, I’m Spanish. I live in Spain (Madrid) This is my third year at the University. I’m studying English Philology. I decided to study this degree because three years ago I went to London. It’s curious! Since I was a child I love languages, especially English, how it sound… it was something that caught my attention, really, I don’t know how to express my feelings talking about this, but, the only thing I have clear is that you don’t really know about a language, the culture and so on until you get there. I’m going to explain myself by saying one example: my parents are Guinean and both speak different languages (bubi and fan), in order to understand themselves, they speak “pichi” that is like broken English. Since I was a child, they speak with us in pichi and nowadays I’m able to understand almost everything but it’s very difficult for me to speak in such language, why? my theory is that although your parents try to teach you the language you can’t learn it completely if you don’t stay at least a time in the country and if you don’t practice it. This is my theory but always I contradict myself because if it’s so what happen with bilingual children and so on? This is just my case… Well I’ve been talking about my origins all the time, now is time to talk about other things: First of all I’m going to talk about my hobbies. I like dance, music, skate, read, go to the cinema, go shopping, have rest with my family at home (eating, watching TV and enjoying them)… I like read book in English, at this moment it’s easy for me to read them. Obviously, I don’t understand everything, but I can finish them and I can defend myself with any kind of issue… I’m studying French as second language at the University. I’m very bad on it: my pronunciation is awful, the grammar is almost OK, but the most important thing is that I have energy for learn it. I don’t mind if I can’t pronounce well or whatever, I’m going to ‘fight’ for it!! So I am!! I consider myself as a ‘fight’ woman. Although something could be very hard to obtain, I try to get it anyway and at the end I get it. This is in a good way, I’m not ambitious or a calculator person. Another characteristic is that I’m very friendly. I love to laugh and to enjoy the life with everyone. I like to meet new people, to go out with my friends, but at the same time I like to stay at home with my family!! I go out (at night) once a month. As the time pass, I prefer to stay at home instead of going out. The society has change and nothing is like before. Maybe I’m saying things that could sound a little bit rude and also it might be misunderstanding, but please, do not be scare about what I’m saying. My lifestyle at this moment is most of the time the same. As a student, I don’t have enough time because I have to prepare a lot of expositions, essays, and also the theory that will be included in the final test. So, I don’t have too much time for me. I’m trying to divide myself properly but it’s impossible, even doing that I lack of time, I need more hours. It’s incredible!! I didn’t think that going to the University could be like this. Is too much stress in my life, but as I said before, I contradict myself many times and I like it. I’m a nervous person, I can’t do just one thing, for that reason, I go to the gym and I teach English in my ‘free’ time. I have to help at home, my parents are divorced and I live with my mum and my cousin. I decided to teach people because maybe in a future I will be an English teacher, although I don’t think so, because I would like to study another degree (translation) Now it’s my best part of the letter!! Children, well I love them. If I could I would like to have a football team!! They are so sweet. Is all the same to me, babies, teenagers… I think we can learn a lot of things of them. They are like angels!! I enjoy staying with them. Talking about care, it is not for throw or drop me flours, but I think I’m the best. I know how to change their nappies, how to prepare theirs feeding bottle, how to play with them… teenagers are ‘easy’ to understand them, to play with them, they talk, so you can know what’s going on, if h/she has a headache or something like that. I have small cousins and always, at least twice, I have to look at them so I have the habit to stay with them and summarizing I love them. I don’t consider myself as carelessness. This is the end of my letter; I hope you have enjoyed it. Thank you. Regards, Victoria.
