My name is Shauwana and I am 20 years old. I live in the Caribbean, Trinidad to be exact. I live in the countryside in the deep South with my parents. My father is a retired bus driver from the UK and my mother is a geriatric nurse. I consider my mother my best friend as we are very close and I can talk to her about anything. I have two older sister. The oldest lives in the USA and she is a nurse and my other sister is a health and safety officer living in Trinidad. I am very close to all my family members as we are a tight-knit family. We always make time for each other and plan activities to do together. I completed my GCE A levels in 2009 and decided that I would explore my options. I have been a teacher since then. I have a passion for helping people and hope to become a barrister some day.
I would like to be an au pair to gain experience as well as get exposure to a new and interesting culture. I would also like to begin my Bachelor's degree at some point. English is my first language. I speak Spanish and French very well and I know a bit of Chinese Mandarin.
I have had a lot of babysitting experience from looking after my family's children as well as kids in my neighbourhood. I have been doing this since I was 12. I also taught children between Years 2 to 8, teaching them various subjects like reading, writing, Spanish, French, Math and many more. Most recently, I took care of a young boy named Jieil (4) and his sister Jaydel (2). I taught him how to read and write and we were very close. I took care of him on weekdays from 8am to 6pm. Within a few weeks of looking after him, he was reading short articles in the newspaper and he did excellent on his Primary Education entry examination. Jaydel also learned to read as she would sit with me and I would read to her and help her trace letters. She is now 3 and is doing very well. I am no longer with the family as they moved. They had begged me to come live with them but I wanted to further my education so I declined. I do miss them but I call them very often and visit them on occasion. I am sure that I will have a very close relationship with you child(ren) because I have excellent communication skills and I get along very well with children.
In my free time, I write stories and poetry and I read. I love mystery and adventure novels and those with a moral/lesson to learn. I love football. I used to play reguarly with my cousins. I love cartoons as they provide laughter, which really is the best medicine. I am an honest young woman who gives her all and more in all that she does.
It will be my pleasure to assist your family with housework and and I would like to go to university to study Law at some point. When I finish my studies in Law, I would like to become a barrister to defend those who have been oppressed and down-trodden and feel like the law has not granted them the justice deserved.
I will be able to come to the UK in January and stay for 2 years.
I do not have a driver's license but intend to get one in the very near future. If you have any questions or would like any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.
Yours respectfully Shauwana Glasgow
