My name is Angelina Malmros, I am 19 years old and live in quite a big town called Helsingborg in the south of Sweden. I was born and raised in this town and I must say I like it here, but I feel like I want to try something else for a while. My parents are divorced since four years back but that is nothing I suffer from, it works fine and they still talk to each other. My mother's occupation is office worker and my father works as a watchman. I have a little brother who is 16 and a "plastic" brother who is 11 (my mother has got a new boyfriend). They both go to school.
This summer I graduated from high school. I went to a big school in Helsingborg called Olympia where I did the social science program for three years. I studied a lot of languages there; English, French, Italian and Japanese. Languages is one thing that I have always been interested in and I have very easy to learn new ones. Now, when I have graduated, I feel like I’m being born again. When you don’t have any school to attend you face so many opportunities and possibilities that it almost drives you insane. It is really, really difficult to decide what you want to do with your life. To be honest, I don’t have a clue about what I want to work with or do in the future. That is one reason why I want to be an au pair. I see this future year as an opportunity to clear my head and perhaps realize what I want to do when I get older. Also I think this is the best way to get out and see the world and get some great experiences; my parents and friends have always been there for me but now if I move to England, I have no one but myself. That thought should be frightening, but when I think about it I only get excited.
I love to travel. From the year when I was one up until my parents got divorced (about 4 years ago) we traveled together every year. I have been to many places around the world; Spain, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, the Canary Islands, France, Norway, Denmark (actually I travel to Denmark many times every year. Helsingborg is very close to the Danish town Helsingor, so there are ferries going between these two places every 20 minutes. I think that is quite a thing; in just 20 minutes you can go to a different country). In the summer of 2007 I traveled on my own for the very first time; a friend and I went to Zakynthos, a Greek island. It was very rewarding even though I knew the whole traveling process since I had traveled a lot before. Last summer I went to Saint Tropez, France with three friends and I loved it there. This summer I’ve been to Costa Brava in Spain for one week with my high school class and on Rhodes Island, Greece with my best friend.
Except traveling I like to read, I read a lot of books and magazines. I also like to write; I have considered to study journalism at college, but I’m not sure yet. I love to dance as well, right now I’m not taking any classes but I have done. Cooking is a big interest I have, I cook quite often and I like to try new dishes. Besides this I like to hang out with friends and to meet new people, I see myself as a social and outgoing girl.
My experiences of children and babysitting are a whole lot. As I wrote before, I have a little brother and we are pretty close. He has always been around me from the day he was born, and I have been taking care of him when he was younger. Also I have my "plastic" brother who I look after sometimes, he is really cute and easy to be around. My best friend has two sisters and they have one kid each; one girl who is 4 years old and one boy who is only 4 weeks old. I have been around them much as well, especially the 4 year old. I have been babysitting her a few times and I think it went really well. When I was 14 I was an intern at my old kindergarten for a week. There were children in the ages between 3 and 6 years. I felt really comfortable there and the kids were adorable. A year later I went to Stockholm for two weeks and there I was an intern at a preschool with children who was between 5 and 7 years old. This was a fun experience since it was in a whole new city and I did not know anyone besides my aunt, who is a preschool teacher. I really love children, sure they can be stubborn and winy sometimes but most of the times they are lovely and make life seem so easy. I usually get along very well with them since I’m a humble, kind and caring person.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely Angelina
