My name is Yan Yakubov and I’m 18 years old. I come from Bulgaria – perhaps that’s a country you don’t know much about . It’s an exotic place in the south of Europe with really extraordinary ways and traditions. However, I don’t think I can describe it vividly enough in a letter so instead l’ll tell you more about me. The main reason behind my decision to choose the UK for my au pair destination is that I’m fascinated by the English culture and I want to explore it in detail. I also think my language skills need the kind of improvement only living in England could provide. Besides, being a member of your family, albeit for a year, is a fantastic opportunity for me to pick up some of the world-renowned English humour! J Now I can’t really show off with some spectacular qualifications. The closest experience I’ve had to being an au pair was when I looked after my cousins Borislav (a 10-year-old) and Bojidar (a 7-year-old). Some of the tasks included preparing light meals for them and helping them with their homework. The thing I like most about my cousins is that they always ask questions and are curious about the world around them – I guess that’s what we have in common. I also like the fact that they never tire playing games and having fun. They are truly fascinating kids. As for my hobbies and interests – I enjoy playing basketball and swimming. I’m also a fan of extreme sports like bungee jumping, paragliding and rafting. The piano is my favourite musical instrument and I would like to practice playing it. However, even though nowadays it sounds weird, the best pastime for me is reading books. I have a dream to travel the world and learn as much as I can about it and I thought I’d start from England. I hope we can meet soon!
