Hello, My name is Julia and I am from Cornwall in England. I am currently an au-pair in Paris looking after a lively 5 year old little boy. I am enjoying my placement so much that I would like have the opportunity to have a similar experience with another family in a Latin country either in Italy or Spain. I am fluent in English and French and although I have studied Italian a bit at school, I dare not say I can speak it, I do not speak Spanish, though I have spent holidays there, but I am prepared to try very hard to learn so I can communicate with people. I will be available from late June / beginning of July (2010), when my contract ends here, through to the middle of September (2010), when I will be starting my French and Drama degree at the University of Kent.
I am 19 years old and, I am lively, smiley and fun. I am quite talkative but I think I am also a good listener too. I love learning languages, meeting new people and discovering new cultures. At the moment I really enjoy making new friends from all over the world, here in Paris. I also like reading, going to the cinema and theatre as well as swimming and sailing, I was a member of my town’s sailing club until last year. Until I left for Paris, I was a volunteer worker at both youth clubs in my home town, and helped run activities for young people aged 10 to 15. During my A Levels, I went on a work placement in France working as a mini-assistant in a primary school, teaching English through games and songs to young children.
In my current au pair family there are 4 children and I look after the youngest. I find it fun to spend time with him playing games and teaching him new things and new words. I like being an au-pair here, as I feel safe and part of the family. I help the mother in the kitchen, make simple meals and help out with general household tasks such as tidying and washing up. I sometimes look after the older children too, babysitting or taking them to Disneyland and or to visit attractions in Paris.
I believe I am also responsible, trustworthy and honest. My current family described me as discreet, calm and warm. I am fun loving and lively but I can be assertive and able to take charge when necessary.
I would like to be au- pair in Italy or Spain as these are cultures I have not yet discovered. I consider myself a true European, with a British father, Irish grand-parents, and a French mother. A reference is available from the family for which I am currently working. Please feel free to contact me with any question you may have, I will be happy to answer them. Julia
