Dear Host Family... My name is Babilona, I'm nighteen years old. I graduated from school last summer. I went this autumn to municipal adult education and studied mathematics C. For a long time I have wanted to travel to another country to work as an Au pair. The main reasons is becuase I love children, obviously, but also becuase I see this as a great opportunity to learn and experience for both me and your child/children.
I’m born and grown up in the middle/south of Sweden, in Norrkoping, not a big town, but not so small either (around 129 000 inhabitants). I live with my mother who is 45 years old and my father who is 50 years old. I’m the youngest of three children. I have two older brothers (22 and 24 years old) who live togehter in a apartment in our city. We are not Swedish, we are Assyrian, if you know what that is? But me and my family have a Swedish nationality. I’m born in Sweden, so are my brothers, but my parents have lived in Sweden for about 34 years. Before that they both lived in Turkey. My father works as an interpreter and my mother is full time sick-listed.
I would descibe myself as an happy and responsible girl. I love to have fun and try new sports and activities. It is importen for me to have fun becuase you only live once. That's part of why I want to be an au pair because when you take care of children you have to be lively and funny often. But at the same time it’s essential to also be settled and calm. To have people around that I get along with well makes me feel good.
On my sparetime Im hang out with my family and friends. Im exercise twice a week, I like to be in movement. I also like to cook, play football, shop, travel, watch films, listen to music and bake, especially bilberrypie, that i would love to bake to you. Later in the future I want to study economy and become an auditor, it's my goal in life. It's always best to travel and widen your horisont before you choose what ocupation to have in your life.
I have a burning intrest to help other people, I have had that since my childhood. I think it’s because I have large family with lots of younger children, about 15 cousins that are under 9 years old. I have a big responsibility for my small cousins, it’s always been so, maybe because my family is very close to each other, even if they live in other cities in Sweden. When I’m with my younger cousins we usually play football, swing, watch films, play tv-games and the game monopoly, swim etc. I also help them to go to bed by reading a book. Besides that I’m also a member of the Assyrian association in Norrkoping and I help to arrange activites for Assyrian kids. We have barbecues during the summer, on easter day we paint eggs and on halloween we get dressed with the children and go on "ghostrounds". We often have movienights too.
I worked, in 2007, with older people (who has some sort of handicap or other problems) on a nursing home. My duties when I worked was to feed them, hold them when they walked, clean their rooms etc. It gave me the experiance to be patience when I helped them, which is good to be when I’m around children. I’ve also worked on a Spanish/Italian Restaurant in the summer of 2008. I had a big responsibilty. I served food and tidy up, and at the same time stood by the cashbox, answered the telephone, taking care of the customer etc. Besides that I also have had an telephone job and a selling job part-time for two months.
I’ve taken care of children before. Last summer i baby-sit to my neighbour daughter some times in the weekends (when her parents going out to a wedding or travel to another city). She is 8 years old and her name is Melinda. I enjoy beeing baby-sitter to her, partly because we get along so good but also because I liked to occupied and keeping up. In January this year I travelled to Mamlo in south Sweden to try to be an au pair for one week to two lovly girls of age 16 months and 2.5 years old. It was a test for both me and my host mom. I really enjoyed that week, it was a great och big experience for me. Me and the children and their mom came along so good. But her children were not used to have an au pair so it was hard for them. I have a reference from their mom if you want me to send it to you.
As I wrote earlier I want to be an au pair because I love children and being around them. I want to see how your family live, explore more of the country you live in and experice other culture. And of course, I will share my culture to your family. I never had younger brothers or sisters, I always wanted to. To be an au pair will make me feel like a older sister, hehe! I think it is very importen as an au pair to be happy and to come along with the kids, becuase that’s the best wat to keep your children happy too. I have some great experience from the past but I have a strong believe in that working as an au pair will make me more independent and give me a wide open sense. Hopefully it will be a memory forever!
Looking forward to hear from your family!
Best regards Babilona Simonsson
