No - I don't have a first aid certificate but I was part of my school's team in first aid procedures. We have been participating in some contests and we were 2nd out of 10 teams.
My name is Dragos Miu, I’m 22 years old and my nationality is romanian. I live in Ploiesti City, which is 1 hour far from Bucharest, the capital-city of Romania. I have graduated University in July 2011 with a Cybernetics, Statistics and Economy Diploma.
My family is composed of four members: my dad, which has retired from Army and now works as a Security Inspector, my mom, who has worked as a quality analyst and my brother, 4 years older than me, who works as a Casino Inspector in Morocco.
Our national language is Romanian, but I can speak fluent English as I studied it for 10 years (I remember grabbing the first English words while watching Cartoon Network *big grin*). I can also speak French pretty good as I have studied it in school for 11 years. I had the opportunity of practicing this language while I was visiting my brother in Morocco. I can understand a bit of Spanish and Italian, since these ones and Romanian are latin languages, therefore a lot of words resemble each other.
Having a brother has made me easy-going with children since I have spent my whole childhood playing with him and other kids from the same block of flats. I have recently been taking care of a little girl, named Bianca, a family friend’s child. Since her mother passed away while she was giving birth to Bianca, her father needed some help in raising Bianca. I was very happy to spend some time with her, playing with her and showing her some funny tricks. This experience made me want to help other kids as well. Hence, I will soon be teaching basic English to some little ones at a kindergarten in Ploiesti City.
I am yet to make up my mind regarding my Masters degree. UK culture has always kept me fascinated and therefore, I would like to take into consideration the possibility of doing my Masters Degree there. I’ve been visiting UK for a couple of times and I like the lifestyle. I can already say that after one year of working as an Au-Pair I will definitely improve my English, as I am a quick learner, which will help me to successfully take the Masters Degree.
Talking about my hobbies, I can say that music is on the first place. Haven’t said it before? I’m a singer and I also like creating music on the computer. If the kids also like to sing or to play to an instrument, we can record all the fun so that they can remember these moments over the years. I also love sports like Football, Basketball, Tennis, Swimming, Badminton and cycling, but if the family is doing some other sports I will be happy to learn and practice them with the kids.
I enjoy playing games on the console or on the computer but I think the real fun is when the whole family plays some classic games like Monopoly, Scrabble or Dominoes on a rainy day. You can add a cup of tea and some cookies and the atmosphere would be just perfect.
I read books on a daily basis and a few years ago I started to write poetry. One day I’ve showed some poems to my English teacher and she proposed to me to write some more for the University’s magazine. This made me think seriously about it and now I’m planning to publish a book in the near future.
Pets had always been part of my family, from the cat or the rabbit in my childhood, to the dog we have now. I would be happy to take care of pets, if the family has any of them.
I am used to treat kids like they are my brothers or sisters so I would like to be part of the family, not just an au-pair.
I’m really looking forward to talk to you and to learn some more about each other, to learn about your family, its interests, needs and expectations, and to settle the details of the au-pair arrangement.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Kind regards, Dragos Miu
PS: I will supply all the documents directly to the host family, I don't feel safe uploading my passport copy or references to this site. Thank you!
