Universal Au Pairs is owned and operated by husband and wife Phil and Caroline Lodge. Caroline is a trained and qualified nursery nurse and owned and ran a nanny agency in the 1990s, which she subsequently sold. In 2004 Phil and Caroline opened Cosmopolitan Au Pairs, which was run by Caroline and offered a managed au pair and family matching service.

Universal Au Pairs was launched in 2006, providing families and au pairs with a cost effective online option of fulfilling their au pair and placement requirements. The au pair market continued to evolve, and in November 2008 the UK government changed the rules regarding those countries with citizens allowed to visit the UK as au pairs under the official au pair scheme. As a result of this, and the declining number of au pairs coming through the managed agency route, we decided in May 2009 to integrate our activities under Universal Au Pairs, utilising a partner agent to provide a managed matching service where this is preferred by the family.
